Homemade Costume

The Boy had a Harvest Party at school on Friday night, so what was I doing on Friday during the day? Spray painting his costume. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

He wanted to be an astronaut, so here's what I started with...snow pants. And a pair of gloves.

I bought the helmet on eBay. It's cheaply made, but it does the job. I found a silver Hanna Montana jacket at Goodwill (Shhh! Don't tell him it's a girls' jacket), slapped some NASA stickers on it and BOOM! Astronaut in the house!

We bought the girls' costumes, but astronaut costumes were ridiculously expensive, so I went this route. It's not only easy and inexpensive, but it will keep him warm while trick-or-treating too!

Are you ready for Halloween? Do you put together your own costumes?

Dinner is Planned

I can't tell you how many times 6pm has rolled around and we're digging through our pantry looking for something to make for dinner. I recently found out about emeals.com. It's a menu planning service that offers weekly menus, grocery lists and savings at the stores that we shop. We just signed up this weekend and I'm excited to start trying the recipes this week!

Sure, I could make my own menu, but I've been telling myself for months that I'll get to that. Emeals has done all the work for me. And they have lots of different meal options: low carb, gluten free, portion control, Paelo and many more!

We signed up for the Clean Eating option. I considered the Simple Gourmet too, but I'm hoping the clean eating will kick me into gear, since I've been eating so bad lately. However, we can change our plan at any time, so we can switch it up if we want to.

It's also very affordable (Dave Ramsey even recommends it)! It's $5-7 a month, depending on length of subscription. Plus, I was able to find a coupon code for 20% off too! If you're interested in trying it out, seeing sample menus and learning how it works, click on the banner below and use LUNCH as the coupon code.

Life Truly is a Vapor

"On an average day, we forget that our life truly is a vapor." That's what Francis Chan talks about in chapter two of his book, Crazy Love. So as I was contemplating, this happened.

A story of a 7 year old boy in our community who has been diagnosed with a very rare brain tumor. To make matters worse, his parents do not have jobs and were served an eviction notice after arriving home from their doctor's appointment and finding out that their son was terminally ill.

As a mother of a 7 year old boy, I was heart-broken. I cannot imagine what they are going through. In a matter of a few hours, their whole life had changed. Been tuned upside down. Then after seeing how their neighbors and community came together I thought, "that is what it's all about". God calls us to love and care for our neighbors (Mark 12:31) and to live each day for Him, showing the love He has freely given to us to others (1 Cor. 10:31, Deut. 10:19, John 10:10 and many others).

Today could be the day I meet God, face-to-face. So, today I'm asking Him to reveal opportunities to me. To use me as a vessel. How can I further His Kingdom today? It's a question I should be asking everyday.

Here's a short little clip from Francis himself, regarding this topic...

Happy Birthday to My Man

Today is my hubby's birthday! YAY!

Photobucket
Isn't he handsome?

I'm so proud of the man, husband and father that he is. He works hard to support our family and most of all he loves Jesus. I'm honored to be his wife.

Happy Birthday Mr. Turco! You're my most favoritest thing...ever.

Halloween Hoopla

Halloween is just 19 days away! It's "creeping" up very fast! We don't really make a big deal about it...last year the kids didn't decide what they were going to be until the day of Halloween! They rummaged through the dress up box and picked out some stuff.

But this year, the boy said he wanted to be an astronaut and I'm pretty sure we don't have an astronaut suit sitting in the dress up box. So, I'm racking my brain trying to figure out how to make one. Ideas are welcomed :)

Sweet Pea has also informed me that she would like to be a astronaut as well. I was really hoping she wanted to be a flower, since we have a nice warm flower costume that someone gave us, but she has no interest.

To get my creative juices flowing, I turned to Pinterest, naturally. I found a few ideas, but was quickly distracted by all the cute and creative DIY costumes out there. Here are a few that caught my eye:

Fall is here!

WOW! Is it really October already?! I just realized it's been an entire month since my last blog post and today I am, once again, blogging over at 30 Days. Check it out here.

Our little family has been busy so here's a little update...

We successfully moved out of our house and moved in with my parents until our other house is ready.

The kids love it here. There's lots of nature...like frogs, snakes, deer, a garden to tend and lots of space to roam.

Sweet Pea started dance classes and LOVES it! She'll even let me do her hair for it (which is a miracle)!

The weekend that we moved in with my parents, I headed out of town for a women's retreat with our church. It was a much needed recharging for my soul. Then, last weekend, me and my girlie friends ran The Color Run. It was a blast! If you have one near you, you should do it!

Now that Fall is officially here, that means football, Pumpkin Spice Scones and yumminess from Trader Joe's.

I look forward to TJ's Spiced Cider every year. It really is the best!

Fall is a happy, beautiful time and we're looking forward to spending the holidays over the next few months with family.
