Monday Ramblings

Happy Monday friends!

We had a full weekend of baseball, dance recital, sleepovers and helping friends move. By last night everyone was cranky and tired. The house is still quiet this morning and I am letting the kiddos catch up on their sleep.

Our little dancer
Their dance routine was "The Lonely Goatherd" from The Sound of Music. It was the cutest! Our little sweet pea was so into it!

Now that summer is in full swing, we have our summer list to check off, but I also have my own list of projects around the house that I want to complete.

One of those projects is our guest room. It has been a catch-all since we moved in and I'd like to make it a more inviting and functional space. First project...curtains!

On Saturday night I was up late sewing. I got one panel done. Hoping to finish the other one today.

Have you ever sewed curtains before? They are pretty easy to do (and quick too)! Design Sponge has a great tutorial.

Speaking of house stuff...Lysa TerKerust and The Nester are teaming up for this awesome blog series: Turning your House into a Home on a Thrift Store Budget.

Turning Your House into a Home on a Thrift Store Budget: Day 1

Perfect timing! I will definitely be checking in on that!

What are some projects you have planned for the summer?

Random Update

WOW! I didn't mean to take a break from blogging for that long. The last few weeks have been jammed-packed...

Baseball, dance, Spring performances, preparing for upcoming birthdays, auctions and teacher appreciation week (and then all the regular stuff, like laundry, dishes, packing lunches and making dinners, etc.) Whew!

This month we will be celebrating this sweet girl

She's growing up so fast!

She has decided to have a joint party with her birthday twin and good friend, Charlie. Here's the invitation we sent our to her class

They are so goofy together. The photos are SO them! I love it. We purchased them from Walgreens. Easy, inexpensive and fast!

In between the busyness, we try to make time for fun too, like a story box

and a dinner date with my favorite girls

Next week is Teacher Appreciation week and there are a lot of great ideas out there! Check out my DIY Gifts Pinterest Board for some of them.

Have a great weekend!

The time is flying by

Seriously. FLY.ING. These last few weeks have been complete craziness, hence the blog sitting pretty on the back burner. The headlines...

This guy turned 8 last week!!

It's hard to believe it's been 8 years already! I still remember the day we brought him home and how tiny he was. He was 6 lbs. 2 oz when he was born...just a little peanut.

Donuts and a bucket of baseballs were waiting for him when he woke up.

At lunch time, I surprised him with a special lunch at school. Smiles from ear to ear.

He had a baseball game that evening and after we went to Red Robin with our families. Food, ice cream and presents...what more could a boy ask for?

The celebrating continued the next day with a birthday party at Sky High Sports, a wall-to-wall trampoline venue. All the kids got some donuts to take home. I found a really cute "8 is great" printable here

To keep going with the 8 theme, I made an 8 cake

He had a great few days of celebrating!

Sweet Pea is getting ready for a dance recital. This is our first ever recital with the whole costume and everything. It's quite a production, but she's having fun and loves doing it with her friends.

I got to take a break from the busyness and spend the evening with some awesome girlfriends and Hillsong United. We got the royal treatment...a private suite, server who brought us food and VIP parking...BOOM! We have friends in high places and got totally spoiled!

It was an awesome concert!

On Saturday, the Boy had a baseball tournament and they played in the championship and WON! They went undefeated all season. It was a lot of fun...great coaches, new friends and just an all around good time.

After a week and weekend of non-stop to-dos and places to be, it was time to relax and break in the new slip-n-slide.

We have one more week of school and then things slow down for us a bit. I'm looking forward to it.

ALSO, last week I shared my classic guac recipe over at 30 days. You can see it here.

Have a great week!

You are more beautiful than you think

My friend posted this on her Facebook wall and it was so worth the watch!

The way we view ourselves is completely different than how others, and most importantly God, see us. We were created in His image and to Him, we are beautiful.

You can see the actual sketches and other videos about this project here.

And another month has come and gone...

WOW! I can't believe how fast February went by! We got our keys to our new house last Friday and started moving things in right away. We were SO excited to get in! We've been waiting for 6 months for this house to be built and now that it's done, it was so worth it.

We have been crazily working to get things organized and unpacked, which is a little more difficult this time around since there are 3 kiddos to taxi around and life goes on as usual. It's a process that seems endless, but I'm just trying to take it one room at a time. But our friends, family and my hubby have been super helpful!

Here's our goofy little family...

So that is what has been happening over here. I'm sure there will be many tutorials and projects to share in the coming weeks and months.

Complete & Total Randomness

Here's what's going on in our little neck of the woods, in no particular order...

Our house is ALMOST done! The landscaping went in today and my friend, Kristy, sent me this photo.

Of course, I had to drive by and see it for myself!

I've jumped on the Downton Abbey bandwagon. I've watched the entire first season on Amazon Prime and I love it!

Today, I took our sweet baby girl in for a flu shot (yes, a little late I know...now that flu season is just about over). She did fine and we walked out of the office only to be chased down by the nurse letting me know that our sweet baby girl was behind on all her other vaccines.

The nurse said "since you're here, I can give her six of the seven she needs." Ahem...what? I thought the one flu shot was traumatic enough, let alone SIX?! I opted to break it up and she got two more. She did surprisingly well, but I have to say, visits to the doctor and watching our kiddos endure pain is the worst part of parenting, especially when you can't explain to them why.

My friend, Katie, and I are on week three of Jamie Easton's Live Fit program. It's a Strength Training Program and I. AM. SORE. I don't want to be a bodybuilder or anything, I just want to get toned and lean. We'll see how it goes.

How about you? What's going on with you?

A Pep Talk

This kid is hilarious! And he has a great message to share too...

Happy Monday! Go out and be awesome today!

Fall is here!

WOW! Is it really October already?! I just realized it's been an entire month since my last blog post and today I am, once again, blogging over at 30 Days. Check it out here.

Our little family has been busy so here's a little update...

We successfully moved out of our house and moved in with my parents until our other house is ready.

The kids love it here. There's lots of nature...like frogs, snakes, deer, a garden to tend and lots of space to roam.

Sweet Pea started dance classes and LOVES it! She'll even let me do her hair for it (which is a miracle)!

The weekend that we moved in with my parents, I headed out of town for a women's retreat with our church. It was a much needed recharging for my soul. Then, last weekend, me and my girlie friends ran The Color Run. It was a blast! If you have one near you, you should do it!

Now that Fall is officially here, that means football, Pumpkin Spice Scones and yumminess from Trader Joe's.

my two favorite boys

I look forward to TJ's Spiced Cider every year. It really is the best!

Fall is a happy, beautiful time and we're looking forward to spending the holidays over the next few months with family.

Instagram Catch Up

Remember when I said I was back to blogging? And that we were going to have an easy, laid back summer? Well...all that went out the window when we decided last week to put our house on the market. YIKES!

We've talked about it for a long time, but not seriously until last week when a lovely house lot came on the market in our favorite neighborhood. We're in crazy mode around here trying to get the house into ship-shape.

So here's some instagram photos to catch you up on the last few weeks...

My sister-in-law was in town so we went to our favorite Italian restaurant to celebrate her visit. SO GOOOOOOD!

Preparation for the 4th

A 4th of July tradition...the Lemonade Flag Cake (supersized!)

Leftover spaghetti. Pure joy

The Tillamook Baby Loaf bus outside our local grocery store. Isn't it cute?

Backyard summer fun

Goofy girl and a very large soccer ball

Free Slurpee Day!

Homemade Mac & Cheese with Ham

Demo'd bathroom. New fixtures going in next week...part of the craziness around here.

I hope you're enjoying your summer!

Blessings, Happy Mail & Bacon

I have been running at high speed since my last post. Preparing for a half marathon, trying to get all my training in, work, Bible study, helping to plan a baby shower and getting ready for Sweet Pea's fourth birthday party! And then there's all the mundane stuff...getting the kids to school, T-ball, soccer and everything in between.

Yes...spring is busy.

But, in my Bible study this week, I was hit by this excerpt:
"I forget that even those daily tasks give me an opportunity to glorify God. I glorify Him when I have a heart that is grateful for those "mundane" tasks, when I recognize that everything I have is on loan from Him, and everything I do can be used for His glory."
Corinne Baur, Running by The Book: Becoming Physically and Spiritually Fit

I needed that reminder this week. So, I count it all as blessings....

God has blessed me with health and the ability to train for a half marathon.
He has given me an awesome opportunity to work in ministry with an amazing group of people.
He has brought women into my life through Bible Study that speak truth into my life.
He has blessed me with talents and abilities that I can use to bless others through events and fellowship.
God has given my husband and me the most amazing kids! And I love to celebrate them!

And celebrate we will!! This is the inspiration for Sweet Pea's Birthday Party...

A Strawberry Shortcake Baking Party!! She invited her closest little girlfriends and we're planning some fun baking activities for them to do. Here are some of the things we've gotten in the mail this week...

Yesterday, my mom and I went the fabric store to get some fabric (and lots of burlap) for the party and the shower

We also picked up 30 pounds of bacon, which we got for a screamin' deal. I split it with my good friend, Katie. I don't think we'll be buying bacon for the next year or so.

So, for dinner tonight...BLT's, of course. By the way, do you bake your bacon in the oven? If not, you should! It will change your life!

UPDATE: Here's how I do my oven-baked bacon:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
2. Arrange bacon in a single layer on a baking sheet
3. Bake for 15-20 minutes (depending on how many slices you have on the baking sheet)

If you wanted to make the clean-up super easy, line your baking sheet with foil. And that's it! Perfectly cooked bacon :)

Highlights of the last few days

We had a good quiet weekend. Here are the highlights...

My mom brought us dinner on Friday night...yuuuuussss! Not only is she the best cook ever, but that means I didn't have to cook. Moms are the best!

shepherd's pie and salad...mmmm!

On St. Patty's Day my friend & neighbor, Cathy, ran a 10K with me!

We've been training for this race for months and it felt good to finally cross it off the list. And since it was St. Patrick's Day, we decked ourselves out in green!

This little munchkin is feeling a lot better! She was also decked out in green, so no pinching here!

In honor of the holiday, the kids and I baked a Rainbow Cake with Cloud Frosting. I think they had more fun making it than eating it.

Such a happy cake!

I got the cloud frosting recipe from here. It's basically a meringue and is very shiny & pretty. It kinda tastes like marshmallows, which is not really my thing, but it's fun and very fitting for a rainbow cake :)

Sunday was a true day of rest around here. With everyone getting over nasty bugs we figured it was best to hunker down and stay home.

Yesterday was a pretty average day. Sweet Pea had a playdate in the morning, while The Boy was at school.

We had lunch.

Cleaned up the house.

The kids played with a circuit board.

And jumped in a pile of pillows.

I hope you're having a great week!
